The Kickstart placements give young people, aged 16 -24, a chance to gain valuable experience in a work environment while exploring the amazing career opportunities available in the heritage sector.Hi, I’m Matthew Richter I’m 24 years old and excited to be joining the Nautical Archaeology Society as a Heritage Events Assistant. I have a Ba Hons in ancient classical and medieval studies, that was a joint history and archaeology course that gave me experience in archaeological practice during a month long dig I partook in at Nokalakevi castle in Georgia.

Having graduated in 2018 I went straight into studying a Master’s in history which I graduated in 2019. I have always wanted to work in in and around history and archaeology both hands on and education wise, and though the Covid pandemic put plans on hold, I feel excited to finally be on the right path when I found this position available through the government Kickstart programme.

I am looking forward to offering my hard work and enthusiasm to the Nautical Archaeology Society and hope to be a familiar, reliable face for the Society.
