Why join NAS?

By becoming a NAS member you are helping to support the protection and preservation of our nautical past.  With us you can not only indulge your passion for nautical archaeology, you will also be helping record and preserve the worlds intertidal and underwater heritage for future generations.

Subscription Discount - get £5.00 off your annual membership

To receive a £5.00 discount per year you can set up your membership subscription with an automatic recurring renewal payment on a credit/debit card or via bank direct debit. Just follow the instructions in the Membership Portal.

Don't forget if you are a UK taxpayer, the Society can reclaim the tax from your membership so please remember to complete the gift aid section!

2026-7 membership types and rates (until 31st March 2027)

Choose between Full Individual, Concessionary*, Family or Organisational** membership. You can upgrade your membership to include online access to the International Journal of Nautical Archaeology (IJNA). You can also choose to receive hardcopy IJNA twice per year. 

All member can access the Quarterly Publication (as a pdf file) via the Membership Portal or you can choose to pay extra for a hard-copy to be sent in the mail four times per year.

We are excited to now also offer a Life Membership, with all members benefits including online access to the IJNA (hard-copy not included). Initially we are only offering 20 Life Memberships, so get in quick.

*Concessionary memberships: Includes Registered Students, Unsalaried Individuals; Members of affiliated organisations such as the Institute of Nautical Archaeology. Family Member: A single household of two adults and two children (under 18 years of age) resident at the same address. **Organisational members are not able to benefit from member-only discounts.

Supporting students

Email a copy of your student card to [email protected] so that NAS staff can set up a FREE one year membership for you. This will include the Weekly Discoveries email, our Quarterly Publication (as a pdf) and online access to IJNA. After the first year, concessionary rates apply for the rest of your time as a student.

Life Memberships

We are excited to now also offer a Life Membership, with all members benefits including online access to the IJNA (hard-copy not included). Initially we are only offering 20 Life Memberships, so get in quick. For £1,600 you can support our efforts to protect and research our threatened underwater cultural heritage. You can contact us on [email protected] to talk about signing up for life.

UK Members with an automatic payment renewal subscription

Individual membership costs £40.00 for the Weekly Discoveries email and Quarterly Publication (pdf-extra charge for hardcopy), £56.00 to add IJNA online access or £84.00 if you wish to also receive the IJNA in hardcopy published twice a year (as well as the online access to the full IJNA back catalogue). Rates for Concessionary, Family and Organisational memberships are listed in the table below. 

To receive the £5.00 discount per year make sure you set up your membership subscription with an automatic recurring renewal payment on a credit/debit card or via bank debit card.

To receive a £5.00 discount per year UK members can arrange Bank Direct Debit subscription by contacting us on [email protected]

UK Members with a one off card or cheque payment 

Individual membership costs £45.00 for the Weekly Discoveries email and Quarterly Publication (as a pdf-extra charge for hardcopy), £61.00 to include IJNA online access or £89.00 to additionally receive the IJNA in hardcopy published twice a year (as well as the online access to the full IJNA back catalogue).

All UK members can choose to pay an extra £16.00 to have the hard-copy Quarterly Publication sent in the mail. 

Card Payments: Credit or Debit Card payments can also be made via the Membership Portal.

Cheque Payments: Please send a cheque payable to NAS and posted to Nautical Archaeology Society, Fort Cumberland, Eastney, Portsmouth, PO4 9LD, UK.

Currently for members based within EU countries, membership costs £31.00 for the Weekly Discoveries email, our Quarterly Publication (as a pdf-extra charge for hardcopy), £51.00 to include IJNA online access or £78.00 to additionally receive the IJNA in hardcopy published twice a year, as well as electronic access to the full IJNA back catalogue.

Rates for Concessionary, Family and Organisational EU memberships are listed in the table below. To receive a £5.00 discount per year you can set up your membership subscription with an automatic recurring renewal payment on a credit/debit card.

All European members can choose to pay £25.00 to have the hard-copy Quarterly Publication sent in the mail.

Rates for Concessionary, Family and Organisational RoW memberships are listed in the table below. To receive a £5.00 discount per year you can set up your membership subscription with an automatic recurring renewal payment on a credit/debit card.

All Rest of World Members can choose to pay £30.00 to have the hard-copy Quarterly Publication sent in the mail.
