NAS Part III - Timber Recording

This is a two day course in the Recording Part III module. The course is held at the Newport Ship Centre, Newport, Wales and is taught by Nigel Nayling of Lampeter University. As well as the chance to learn about different methods of recording timbers, the course also offers a unique opportuntiy to see and handle some of the timbers from the Newport Ship. Known as the Welsh Mary Rose, the ship was discovered during the construction of the new Arts Centre in Newport. Some timbers from the ship have been dated to the mid 15th century.

The course costs £225 for the weekend

The course aims to provide an introduction to the recording and analysis of ship, boat and other timbers, using both standard paper recording methods and new technologies such as Faro Arms and laser scanning.

The course will consist of both practical and theoretical sessions in order to help meet the aims and objectives and weather permitting may include a trip to the foreshore. A maximum of 12 credit points will be available in the Recording Part III module.
