Sound of Mull 2010 Underwater Archaeology Fieldschool
14th June – 2nd July 2010
Thanks to support from Historic Scotland, in June 2010 the NAS ran an 18 day fieldschool on underwater archaeology based at Lochaline Dive Centre on the West coast of Scotland. The fieldschool was taught by Mary Harvey (NAS Training Manager), Steve Liscoe (formerly of the Archaeological Diving Unit), Mark and Annabel Lawrence (Lochaline Dive Centre and an NAS Scotland Training Centre) as well as Colin Martin and Paula Martin (IJNA editor). The fieldschool included an NAS Introduction and Part I Course as well as Part III Courses and fieldwork on the site of the John Preston a schooner built in 1855 and wrecked in 1882. The fieldwork built on the surveys undertaken in 2009, helping to increase our knowledge of the site and the material left on the seabed as well as undertaking some excavation in the presumed stern of the vessel.
