Some of the most popular courses the NAS runs are our MACs – Maritime Archaeology Courses.
Anyone can take these courses and members can gain credits toward a certification if they wish. There are no prerequisites for these courses unless noted in the course documentation.
The courses fall into four main categories:
Research: ancient boat building, blacksmithing, cannon identification, numismatics, flint knapping, glass making, anchor typologies
Pre-Fieldwork: project management, map and chart reading, archives research
Fieldwork (practical and classroom-based): geophysics, surveying, Site Recorder 4, finds identification, position fixing, hulk recording
Post-Fieldwork: conservation, dendrochronology, finds illustration, report writing, data management, publication
The courses are run by specialists in their field around the UK and overseas. Credits are awarded to members who undertake these courses at 5 credits/day.
