NAS Part III - Social History of Ships
This is a one day course in the Research Part III module.
The course has been previously taught by Virginia Dellino Musgrave of the Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology
Ships are often viewed from the perspective of their construction rather than from examining the lives of those on board. This course will look at the social context of the people and how this fits in with broader social forces of the time. Sites from the 17th and 18th centuries will be examined and the themes of the course will be explored through the use of case studies.
